Mater Dei High School’s Art Department is hosting an exciting trip to Europe on April 12, 2017, to give students the opportunity to learn more about European art and interact in educational activities.

The director of this experience is art teacher, Shannon Hartman.

While on this ten day trip, students will have the opportunity to visit two of the most beautiful countries in Europe: France and Spain. For the first six days of the trip, the students will visit Paris, Versailles, Nimes-Pont Du Gard and Carcassonne. While visiting, they will have the rare opportunity to witness extraordinary architecture that will help increase their cultural and historical knowledge.

“It’s almost impossible to not have art experiences when you’re in Europe,” Hartman said.

While in Versailles, the students will participate in a role playing activity called Seize the Château, where they dress up in costumes and act out the complications that were happening during the French Revolution. Also, in Nîmes-Pont Du Gard, the students will practice calligraphy and participate in a game of fencing that portrays the elderly French traditions.

Students will then travel to Spain where they will visit Barcelona and Madrid for the last four days in Europe. While in Spain, students will have the opportunity to take a cooking class in Madrid called Cocina Española. They will also have the time to visit places like the Reina Sofía Museum and the Prado Museum. While in Barcelona, students will see famous locations such as Gaudi’s Sagrada Família, Park Güell and visit the Casa Milà.

This once in a lifetime opportunity should not be overlooked, because of all the educational and leisure experiences that will come with traveling.

“Traveling abroad with your students or with your teacher, gives you a different perspective of those people,” said Hartman.
