The Mater Dei tennis sports program attracts a number of talented athletes. The team has had a multitude of League Championships and has. won CIF in both 2000 and 2001. They continue to strive for more wins in the upcoming CIF games.

Natasha Hill, freshman at Mater Dei, competes on Varsity.

“Tennis means a lot to me; it’s like my second home and my second family,” Hill said. “Tennis is a commitment; I work hard to do well in tournaments and competition. It’s a hard sport even though many people might say it is not.”

Hill recently won Trinity League doubles with her partner, Katherine Nguyen. A lot of excitement and joy came out of this win.

“It felt really good winning doubles champs for Trinity league especially because I am a freshman,” she said.

Her expectations as a freshman on varsity can be hard but she knows she will do well with time and effort.

“My tennis ability is just like everyone else on the team,” Hill said. “I wouldn’t say that I feel any pressure at all.”

Before joining the Mater Dei team, Hill played for a good, solid three years and competed in tournaments every weekend and still continues to do so. She plans to continue playing tennis the next four years at Mater Dei and hopes to play Division 1 in college.
