After winning the Trinity League and winning the CIF Southern Section last year, the boy’s varsity golf team had every reason to be satisfied and hit the snooze button this year. But letting that success get to their heads is exactly what didn’t happen.

Three year varsity starter, Senior and Captain, Robert Drobka has been preparing all year for this season. He believes his team can win league, CIF, and make a good run in the State tournament too.

“The expectations are high this year for sure,” Drobka said. “I do believe we have the caliber of players to win another CIF southern Section trophy, but it will take a lot of discipline to keep practicing and continue to do well and shoot the scores we all know we can.”

The team in the offseason hasn’t been slacking either. Along with Robert leading the way, the majority of the team practices daily on there own perfecting their swings and shots.

The Monarchs will face tough competition in their own league this season as Orange Lutheran beat them last year on the road. Their biggest rival, Servite, also has a formidable squad this year.

Junior, Bill Rosenthal, a three year varsity letterman, said the team is focused on improving and being better than last year.

“Rob and I are really excited with the guys we have on the team, not only from a talent aspect, but also from a team building aspect,” Rosenthal said. “We are the defending champs so we are showing all the new guys the ropes and taking them under our wings. We have been preparing all year for this season and the time is now.”
