Student Spotlight: Chase McGrath

The most underrated player on the Mater Dei varsity football team is kicker Chase McGrath. Chase was on the OC Varsity and LA Times Top Specialist lists and is arguably one of the best kickers Mater Dei has had.
“I take my job seriously and I am working hard every day to accomplish my goal of becoming one of the best kickers in high school football,” he said.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
He has not only been a dominant kicker, but he has had an outstanding career. McGrath has made more than 75 percent of his field goals so far in the 2015-2016 season.
“I practice everyday to become better and better, to become a great kicker just like Justin Tucker on the Baltimore Ravens,” he said.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not only is McGrath a great kicker, but he is a strong student as well, averaging a 3.6 GPA.
When he sets foot on the field, he is always prepared and ready.
“When it’s game time, I’m a completely different person. I get loud and focus on my job,” he said.  “I feel no pressure when it’s my time to shine. I just shut out everything I hear and focus on making the field goal.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀
McGrath addressed the hardest aspect about being a kicker and said, “I don’t struggle with many things, but sometimes I stumble upon my technique, it has to be very consistent. “
⠀⠀⠀⠀
McGrath’s proudest accomplishment is making a 45-yard-field goal in a game. He has also made a 58-yard-field goal in practice.
“I have yet to beat my record, I know I can, I just have to wait until I get the opportunity,” he said.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Overall, Chase McGrath is a key to the Monarch’s success and is hoping to accomplish his goals throughout the the season.
