Jocelyn McGuinness is a junior and is a first year Staff Member for The Scarlet Scroll. Besides journalisms, she’s out volunteering at her old elementary school, helping coach the sports team, or peer tutoring/volunteering at her local library. She’s part of many clubs, NHS and CSF. On her leisure time, you can catch her binge watching Friends, How I Met Your Mother, or The Office.

ABOUT TO SWING: Senior Ryder Henares lines up with the hole to try to sink it in the first swing. Henares and the varsity golf team started the Trinity League this month, which included this match against JSerra. “We had a feeling we were going to have a season because golf is already a socially distant sport,” Henares said. “However, everyone was excited when the news got out.”

Through collaboration of both editors and staff reporters, these students put in the hard work to put out the most entertaining work for the audience. “Ive definitely learned how to be a better writer,” junior and Staff Reporter Brigette Ramirez said. “My writing has definitely improved so much in my first year on staff.”

SAFETY FIRST: For teams to maintain a safe environment, school administration and the athletic department instated the following policies: Upon entering campus, students would have their temperatures checked, athletes would be required to wear a mask when they enter, but can take them off during socially-distanced drills. The wrestling team motto is “faith and family”. “You go out there as an individual but all together its a team sport because you help each other get better and you motivate each other,” Doran said. “In the end, when I win, I not only do it for myself but for my coaches and for my team.”

READY, SET, FOOTBALL: The Mater Dei football team started their season opener on Aug. 23 against Corona Centennial at the Santa Ana Stadium. It was the very first game of the 2019 season following a back-to-back CIF state championship win last year. At the end of the game, the Monarchs celebrated a victory against Centennial with the score of 42-12. “The start of the season has been amazing,” senior captain Dean Neely said. ...Everyone is playing fast and doing their jobs.”
