Beach Goth, an alternative music festival, took place on Oct. 22 and 23. Presented by The Growlers, a Costa Mesa based band, and hosted by Eric Andre, Beach Goth attracted a massive crowd at this year’s event.

“The crowd at beach goth is massive crowd! I felt like I was gonna die several times,” said junior Cait Anguiano.

Aside from the vivacious crowd, the concert goers basked in the sun, music and fun the festival provided. One of the favored acts of the festival was the legendary Violent Femmes. Another favorite was 90’s R&B staple, TLC, whose songs mixed soul rhythms with funky, female-powered lyrics.

“I was rapping all of Lisa Lopes’ parts,” said Anguiano, giving tribute to the former TLC member. But music was not the only thing attendants went for. The food, especially the pizza from Pizza Guys, was a major hit.

“The pizza was the bomb diggity … the tater tots were also really good,” said Anguiano.

But the main point of Beach Goth, besides entertainment, was to show a different side of Orange County. With all of the hype around housewives and the trendiest food places, it is nice to get a breath of not so fresh air, and see the alternative side of music.
