On the night of March 4, 2017, the Varsity Mater Dei Basketball Team competed against the Bishop Montgomery Knights at the Honda Center for CIF playoffs.

The second loss all season for the Monarchs Basketball Team left a mark on the records. Mater Dei was leading all throughout the game, until the last five minutes of the fourth quarter, where Bishop Montgomery took hold of the lead and kept it in their grasp, ultimately leading to their win. The score was 55-70 at the end of the game when Monarchs lost the lead.

Since Mater Dei was ranked higher than the Montgomery Knights, they were predicted to win with all their starters in play, but the game did not start with the Monarchs starting five. Number one on the court, Bol Bol, came late to the game due to a late Uber. Bol and wasn’t put in the game until halfway through the first quarter. Bol helped the Monarchs score some quick points but it wasn’t enough in the end. Although the loss was a setback in CIF, they still have a chance at State.

“I blame Uber,” said Coach Gary McKnight to the Orange County Register.
