Mater Dei’s Longest Tradition: Mary’s Grotto
November 12, 2015
In the 65th year of Mater Dei High School’s existence, we have developed one tradition that has outlived them all. Following every home varsity football game, Mater Dei students, parents, football fans and players gather in the heart of campus to pay respects to Mary’s Grotto.
As “Mater Dei” means “Mother of God” in Latin, the MD team makes sure to take time to thank Mary for both their wins and losses.
“We are responsible for defending the name and reputation of Mater Dei High School and that name is synonymous with Mary Mater Dei,” explains head football coach Bruce Rollinson.
