Performing Arts Showcase Celebrates Theatre, Dance, Song and More
February 18, 2016
The annual Performing Arts Showcase displayed the artistic talents of Mater Dei students on Feb. 18, 2016.
On Thurs., Feb. 11 Mater Dei held its annual Performing Arts Rally. Once a year, Mater Dei showcases its artistically talented students for the whole school to see. Acts include Improv Comedy Club, Choir, Dance Team, All Male Hip Hop, and Jazz Band. In each of these performances, there is something that everyone can enjoy.
Senior and drum line member Eljei Sanchez said, “In rallies, I believe that drum line’s performance can truly show people our potential as musicians, ready to perform for others’ entertainment. By performing in front of a large audience, they can have a clear view and mindset on how marching the feet, playing rhythmic music and overlay of visual effects turns into a show for competition, prepared and ready to be shared among them.”
Along with drum line and band, cheer has the chance to showcase their talent to their fellow peers and teachers.
“I think to be a cheerleader it takes a lot of hard work and patience because sometimes it takes time to learn a new backflip, overcome mental blocks, and be able to lift girls in the air,” said senior and Jackie Perez of Junior Varsity cheer, “Without the drive to succeed, we will not be able to accomplish what we need to in order for our team to be successful.”
