Lenten Food Items

As we embark in the Lenten season and alter our lives due to what we gave up, the Mater Dei cafeteria food menu for Fridays has also changed accordingly.
The new lunch menu at Mater Dei focuses on no-meat meal preparations. The special Friday Menu consists of Crispy Fish Sandwiches, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Spaghetti with a Breadstick, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, Breadsticks with Marinara Sauce, Shrimp Pasta and Tuna Sandwiches.
What’s interesting about the behind-the-scenes of the cafeteria is that there is no wasted food, even with the new Lenten menu.
“We don’t have leftovers,” said Tacho, the Executive chef. “We try to make the right amount every time.”
The cooks have perfected the menu to the exact amount and they have provided what students want each time.
“I’m international, I cook all kind of stuff. Whatever the clients [students] wants,” Chef Tacho says in regards to being asked what he enjoys to cook the most.
However, there have been mixed reviews about the new food.
“There wasn’t anything that stood out in particular I just didn’t enjoy it that much,” said freshman Alexis DeWid regarding the new Lenten food Mac-n-Cheese.
