Mater Dei Senior, Ethan Smiggs, is no stranger to academic excellence. As a member of the academic decathlon team and student with an rigorous academic schedule, Smiggs  has his work cut out for him.

“I take all AP classes,” said Smiggs. “Except for academic decathlon since there is no category and also religion … The AP classes that I’m involved in are AP Calculus AB, AP Bio, AP English and Language Composition, AP Macroeconomics, AP US Government and Politics.”

After his hard work in high school, Smiggs plans to continue his education and study in the medical field.

“After Mater Dei, I want to go to University because I would like to study diseases or genetics or I probably would like to be involved in bioengineering because that seems very interesting.”
Smiggs hopes to “bring just more motivation and encouragement to our academic disciplines like math and science” after he graduates Mater Dei.
