SB7 Forever
Spencer Becker was known around school for his smile. His smile was constantly on his face and contagious to everyone who saw it. He was a volleyball star and was always making people laugh. Spencer was the kind of guy that was a friend to everyone.
This summer was a hard one. Everyone was affected by the tragedy of Becker’s passing and the Mater Dei community united during this hard time.
There were many memorials; a mass in the grotto, a paddle out and a Fly By. The tweets and pictures on social media were overwhelming. Bumper stickers and bracelets were made with the phrase, “SB7,” which are Becker’s initials and his lucky number. The SB7 flag has been proudly waved at football game. Friends and family also write “SB7” on their hands in constant and daily memoriam.
Before the school year had begun, several close friends of Spencer were granted permission in painting a mural on Spencer’s usual parking spot.
Senior Deisha Bareng said, “I think the memorial is really special and it honors Spencer in such a beautiful way.”
The mural’s design will captivate anyone who sees it as it reflective is Becker’s free spirit. The mural is outlined in white and blue hand prints that belong to Spencer’s loved ones. The airplane represents Spencer’s love of flying.
This memorial is something that the class of 2016 and all of the future graduating classes can reflect on and remember Becker for who he was and show how much he was loved by the Mater Dei community. Spencer Becker will always be a monarch.
