Homecoming Week Dress Schedule

In anticipation of homecoming, show your school spirit all week. Be sure to follow the dress schedule below.

Mahalo Monday: Wear your Hawaiian shirts and take an on-campus vacation.

Texas Tuesday: Show your inner-country and throw on your favorite flannel shirt and cowboy boots!

Wednesday is national testing day for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and a day off for seniors.

Tee Time Thursday: Bring out your preppy side and sport those cashmere sweaters and tennis skirts.

Freedom Friday: End the week in your most patriotic red, white and blue.

A Day That Brings Us Together: Monarch Special Games

SPIRIT DRESS Students join together to enjoy the Fall Rally wearing spirit dress. On Aug. 29, Mater Dei hosted its first rally of the school year. “The spirit dress that day had a different color for each grade,” senior Anna Cherico said. “It was great to see everyone’s different outfits.”

How Spirit Dress Days Boost Monarch Pride

SAFETY IN ACTION Mater Dei High School commits to maintaining campus safety through emergency planning, response frameworks, and close collaboration with the Santa Police Department. Assistant Principal of Student Life Jack Conklin ‘80 emphasized the importance of continuously reviewing and implementing these safety standards to ensure students are protected in a closed-campus environment. “Every teacher and staff have these [emergency plans],” Conklin said. “It’s part of what we have in an emergency bag in every classroom and office.” Photo illustration by Stella Pham.

KEEP RECYCLING Junior Boston Crenshaw recycles her trash, contributing to Mater Dei’s push for sustainability. As part of Mater Dei’s student-led sustainability efforts, the Go-Green Club sorts through waste ensuring that recyclables are properly separated. This highlights the club's mission to reduce waste, educate students, and build an environmentally friendly campus. “We go around giving posters and bins to staff in order to encourage an eco-friendly campus,” senior Preston Vu said.

TEAM MEET Jina Poirier, Gilbert Sanchez, and Preston Walrath take a photo with the rest of their CEI group. The many districts participating in CEI all come together to have meetings with each other four times a year. These meetings are great ways to get in touch and discuss what is working and what is not working. “So many districts have joined CEI, and we have been able to collaborate with them,” Walrath said. “We have quarterly meetings, the last one was in Anaheim, California. Schools from all over the state come to these locations, and we're able to talk to the parents, the students, the teachers, the administrators, and we have a very equal conversation at a round table. We're able to all discuss the problems of practice that we have in our particular schools, and how they've approached similar problems to ours, and how we can approach our problems. So for us, it's a great tool, because we're able to collaborate with other districts and find out what works for them, and we tell them what works for us.” photo courtesy of Jina Poirier
