THE STOLES: The day began with setup where over 300 stoles were unboxed and placed on display before giving them to the students. “The day went very well for all involved,” said Principal Frances Clare. “The senior level students with 4.0 GPA or higher began arriving with their families at 4:00 pm. The cars drove into Monarch Way, checked in and then Fr. Steve and I presented the students with their stoles and the famous MD cookies. Several faculty/staff members were present and they formed a line to cheer and recognize the students and families as they exited the parking lot.”

Cruz and Father Steve Sallot, the new President of Mater Dei, prepare the Body and Blood of Christ for the Eucharist. Cruz works closely with Helen Steves who has worked at Mater Dei for 32 years. “And I believe his prayerful, intentional preparation is, to me so inspiring. When you walk into a mass...you go in there and you have [for] example 100 football players, and how he takes the Word of God to relate it to their lives. When you walk into a performing arts group, and he, who is a singer himself, he's got the most beautiful voice,” Steves said, “For him to take the word that is given to us for that day. And to take it to those who have been gifted with a performing art is another thing that I admire…”

The Josef Day logo was designed in collaboration with Visual Arts Department Chair Kyle Roberts, Director of Estate and Alumni Giving Allison Bergeron, and junior Dominic Parisi. The design illustrates all the keys D'Heygers carried as a school custodian and caretaker, Bergeron said. The three keys also symbolize how he embodied honor, glory and love, the three foundational values of Mater Dei.
