Model United Nations wins 7 awards at competition Nov. 18

The Model United Nations (MUN) team won seven awards at the annual Tustin High School conference on Nov. 18. “Some students make MUN look easy because some, I think, are just naturally diplomatic and naturally can problem solve on the fly,” MUN moderator and social studies teacher Charisse Kitsinis said. “But for most students and even the ones that make it look easy, it is a lot of work and it is a lot of preparation.” The team is currently on a break from competing but is scheduled to attend a conference at El Toro High School in March.

Girls’ varsity volleyball wins state championship

For the first time in the school’s history, the varsity girls’ volleyball team won the CIF state title after beating Central High School of Fresno on Nov. 23. “We wanted to be that first class to do it,” senior Mandalay Rennon told the OC Register. “We came out with power and energy and nothing was going to stop us.” The team ended the season with a 26-2 record.

Varsity football wins CIF Southern Section championship

After losing to St. John Bosco during the regular season, the Monarchs came back against the Bosco Braves to reclaim their title as CIF Southern Section champions on Nov. 23. “It feels amazing” senior tight end Michael Martinez told the OC Register. “As a team, we knew we beat ourselves (in the first game) … We picked it up. We played with intensity, with energy and we focused. I had all the faith in the world in my team.” The team is scheduled to play against the De La Salle Spartans of Concord, Calif., for the CIF state title this Friday at Cerritos College.
