Walk in Faith retreat offers spiritual growth to students
Retreatants on the second Walk in Faith (WIF) of the year returned to school on Tuesday. The retreat, which typically runs from Sunday to Tuesday, is modeled after the Kairos retreat program and features prayer services, speakers, group activities, and discussions. The final WIF of the year will be from March 15 through 17.
Both junior and senior students are encouraged to apply to further their spiritual journeys and commitment to growing in their faith and relationship with God. Students do not need to be active members in Campus Ministry or their parishes in order to attend, but they do need to have had prior retreat experience and a desire to better their faith through this Walk in Faith.
“It’s a great tradition at Mater Dei and a great way to grow in your faith, a great way to grow in your relationship with God, and [a great way to grow] with your classmates,” said Kendra Hart, the associate director of Campus Ministry.
Although most of the retreat plans and activities are kept under wraps, many past and current Mater Dei have had nothing but high remarks for the Mater Dei tradition, with this retreat becoming one of their favorite things they’ve done at this school.
“WIF was by far the best retreat I have ever been on, and so enjoyable,” senior Sarah Clark said, who attended the retreat this month. “I got the opportunity to bond with my classmates and grow in my faith, and I highly recommend this experience to everyone.”

![BUILDING THE FUTURE: Plans to build tennis courts and a new Performing Arts Center will be started and completed in the coming years. This will benefit students and athletes alike as they will enhance both the Athletic and Performing Arts Departments and bring much-needed venues and state-of-the-art spaces to campus. “You want to be rooted in that tradition of the school when [it comes to] these projects, we’ve always got to be innovating and moving forward,” Vice President of School Relations Scott Melvin said. Assistant Principal of Student Life Jack Conklin ‘80 emphasized the importance of continuously reviewing and implementing these safety standards to ensure students are protected in a closed-campus environment. “Every teacher and staff have these [emergency plans],” Conklin said. “It’s part of what we have in an emergency bag in every classroom and office.” Photo illustration by Stella Pham.](https://thescarletscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/IMG_4187-600x464.jpeg)
