One Hot Mess Fires Things Up
September 21, 2015
Since 1972, the city of Orange has hosted an International Street Fair at The Circle, or what locals call The Plaza. This annual event features many different entertainment, foods, and encompasses cultures from all over the world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Year after year, The Plaza is lined with dozens of booths and banners from many different countries all around the world. Some of these countries include Mexico, England, Polynesia, and Italy. The booths are typically owned by small businesses and consist of volunteers from local athletic teams, schools, and charity organizations working to make a difference in their community. All of the money made by these booths go to local non-profit organizations.
⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀
Although the entire atmosphere of the International Street Fair is oozing with electricity, there’s one thing about it that truly sticks out, One Hot Mess. One Hot Mess is a quintet based out of Orange County and bring the energy to prove it! At the fair they managed to reel in a large crowd while playing popular songs by Journey and The Eagles from the Entertainment England stage.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Niki Bente, lead vocalist, draws the crowd in with her angelic voice and graces the stage with her beautiful spirit. Energetic vocalist and lead guitarist Shiro Nobunaga standing right beside Niki. Ben Rico, keyboardist, adds a little more melody to all the energy by contributing rich harmonies. Accompanied by talented bassist, Kevin Halverson, and steady drummer, Chris Powers, the audience is kept dancing all night to solid rhythms and powerful beats. Each member of the band has a deep appreciation for music and this is made evident onstage.
⠀⠀⠀⠀
After the adrenaline has settled, the crowd is left smiling and moved from all of the memories that One Hot Mess had helped them to relive.

![BUILDING THE FUTURE: Plans to build tennis courts and a new Performing Arts Center will be started and completed in the coming years. This will benefit students and athletes alike as they will enhance both the Athletic and Performing Arts Departments and bring much-needed venues and state-of-the-art spaces to campus. “You want to be rooted in that tradition of the school when [it comes to] these projects, we’ve always got to be innovating and moving forward,” Vice President of School Relations Scott Melvin said. ![GET UP Students laugh and dance at a school rally. All the events and rallies hosted by ASB help bring students together and make school an enjoyable place to be. Senior Maddy O’Connor believes ASB keeps everything together and the school spirit alive. “A lot of things wouldn't be as organized [without ASB] and it'd be kind of boring,” O’Connor said. “ASB brings joy to Mater Dei, and pretty much [all things] cool.”](https://thescarletscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HEIF-Image-1200x800.jpeg)
