Boys’ Track Team wins 4×100 meter relay, places second in CIF

The Mater Dei Varsity Boys’ Track Team competed at the 2019 CIF southern section finals last Saturday at El Camino College. The boys’ 4×100 meter relay, anchored by senior Chad Lemmons, took first place and senior jumper Anthony Salazar won the boys triple jump. The team finished with a second place win and moves on to the masters meet this coming Saturday at El Camino College.

Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team places second in CIF

The Mater Dei Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team placed second in CIF southern section after their game against San Juan Hills at the Claremont Club on Friday. The team was led by Trinity League singles champ Jake Huarte.

Performing Arts Department showcases talent at Coffeehouse

On Saturday, the choir and other performing arts programs, such as the band, performed at the annual Coffeehouse show. The show follows a different theme every  year, and this year’s theme was the music of the Beach Boys. This is the last show of the year for the choir program and also featured performances from students who wanted to showcase their musical talent either individually or with a group.

Annual golf game raises money for athletics program
On Monday, the athletics program presented the 48th annual Golf Classic. It was held at Newport Beach Country Club and the shotgun start began at 11 a.m. Dinner was held at 5:30 p.m. and donations helped support student athletes.

ASL students attend Deaf Awareness Day
This Saturday, the ASL Club will be attending a field trip to Knott’s Berry Farm for Deaf Awareness Day. The goal of this event, which is hosted by the Orange County Deaf Equal Access Foundation, is to raise awareness to the deaf community and provide equal access for deaf people.Advocates and families that support the deaf community are invited. Sign language interpreters will be available to translate at rides and other attractions.

Dance team to perform at annual fundraiser
The Monarchs dance team will be performing this Friday at the 15th annual Spring Soirée and Fundraiser at Seven Degrees in Laguna Beach from 2 to 6 p.m. Artists from Laguna Beach High School, St. Margaret’s, OCHA, and Corona Dance Academy will also perform. Professional ballroom dancers from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars will also be performing at this festival. For more information, click here.
