Annual Josef Day celebration
Today, April 3, is the 10th anniversary of Josef D’Heygers’ passing. He passed away on Holy Saturday, April 3, 2010, and the Mater Dei community continues to try and live according to the way Josef did. Head on over to the Mater Dei Canvas home page to watch a video and learn more about Josef D’Heygers.
Distance learning reminders, updated school return date
Don’t forget to log into your Canvas account to complete your attendance assignments for each class you have that day. If they are not completed by 1 p.m., you will be marked as absent. Also, use your teacher’s designated office hours wisely to ask questions or better understand a topic.
In the principal’s letter, sent out on April 2, it was announced there is an extension of the school closure which affects all school’s connected to the Diocese of Orange. This has been done in an effort to encourage students to stay home and protect public health.
Upcoming online Stations of the Cross, mass to follow
Mater Dei’s Campus Ministry Commissioners have created a Stations of the Cross Reflection for anyone who wishes to participate. The Stations of the Cross will be followed by a week day Mass carried out by Father Mark Cruz. The pre-recorded videos can be found on your Canvas home page.

![BUILDING THE FUTURE: Plans to build tennis courts and a new Performing Arts Center will be started and completed in the coming years. This will benefit students and athletes alike as they will enhance both the Athletic and Performing Arts Departments and bring much-needed venues and state-of-the-art spaces to campus. “You want to be rooted in that tradition of the school when [it comes to] these projects, we’ve always got to be innovating and moving forward,” Vice President of School Relations Scott Melvin said. ![GET UP Students laugh and dance at a school rally. All the events and rallies hosted by ASB help bring students together and make school an enjoyable place to be. Senior Maddy O’Connor believes ASB keeps everything together and the school spirit alive. “A lot of things wouldn't be as organized [without ASB] and it'd be kind of boring,” O’Connor said. “ASB brings joy to Mater Dei, and pretty much [all things] cool.”](https://thescarletscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/HEIF-Image-1200x800.jpeg)
