For Shannon Scully, Siena Secrist and Kelsey Campeau their sights are set not just on the court, but on their future as college athletes. Each of these girls has committed to a university to continue their athletic career in volleyball.

Shannon Scully
Scully is a hard working student-athlete, both on the court and off the court. Her commitment to the University of Utah has encouraged her to be an even better player than she was before.

“I play just as hard now, as before I committed,” Scully said.

Advice to athletes planning on playing in college: “My advice would be to learn how to manage your time well. You need to focus on maintaining good grades while at the same time becoming a better athlete.”

Siena Secrist
Secrist has proved to everyone that she is not just any other volleyball player. She has worked hard and earned herself a spot on the team of her dream school. Being only a junior and knowing that she has her future set, is very reassuring.

“It takes a lot of pressure off of me but I still give my 100% every day in the gym,” Secrist said.

Committed to: University of Southern California
Grade: 11
Position: Outside Hitter/Libero
Advice to athletes planning on playing in college: “I would say to always put your studies first. Yes, athletics are important, but school should come first. Always work your hardest and eventually your time will come.”

Kelsey Campeau
Campeau has played volleyball for many years, and has finally achieved her goal of earning a spot on the Bruin’s team. This is an amazing opportunity for Campeau and she knows that from here on out, she cannot afford to make mistakes that can affect her future.

“After committing I definitely think it has affected my play because I cannot slack, there is nothing set in stone and the offer can be taken away at any point so it pushes me to be better every day,” Campeau said.

Committed to: University of California, Los Angeles

Advice to athletes planning on playing in college: “Be as proactive as possible and don’t wait to make your interests known. Send out emails and contact schools you are interested in as soon as possible because waiting will make it harder to find schools with open spots.”
