Dominique Marchand, Staff Reporter

Dominique Marchand is a senior at Mater Dei and a staff reporter for The Scarlet Scroll. It is her first year on staff and she is excited to see how the year goes. Apart from being on the newspaper staff, she is the Head Team Manager for the Mater Dei Swim Team, and is also a member of the Gillmore Girls club. Dominique is incredibly excited for this new adventure during her last year in high school.

The athletic training team is made up of professional trainers and student volunteers that participate in the Sports Medicine class to get extra hands-on training and experience. Most of these students help out during the bigger seasons, like football season and basketball season, and it’s a bit less of a rush during the other sports.

Coach Rollinson stands with the team he created and his grandson Matthew at the game on Friday, Sept 2 versus Corona Centennial. The year 2023 serves as Coach Rollinson’s 34th year as Head Coach of the Monarch Football Team. He has led the team to win eight CIF Championships, four state titles, and the National Championship in 1994, 1996, 2017, 2018, and 2021. Rollinson loves to have his family with him at games, and the week prior when Mater Dei played Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas his grandson made a very important decision. “Matthew is seven and he looked at me and I say ‘What’s wrong?’ Rollinson said. “I knew he had apprehension and I didn’t want to force him and I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable, it had to be his decision. And I wanted him to make that decision. He finally said, ‘I’m gonna do it.’ And I replied, ‘What are you gonna do?’ He said, ‘Can I be a ball boy?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ He loved it. I mean, I’m sitting there going this is pretty cool. We are at a major football game and my grandson is the ball boy- life is good.”
