Natalie Boulos is a sophomore and a first year staff reporter of The Scarlet Scroll. She loves playing volleyball and has been playing since she was a kid. She also loves writing, especially short stories and poetry. Outside of being on the newspaper staff, Natalie loves going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and going to church. She looks forward to a year filled with photography and writing, and can’t wait to explore the journalism field at a new level.

The athletic training team is made up of professional trainers and student volunteers that participate in the Sports Medicine class to get extra hands-on training and experience. Most of these students help out during the bigger seasons, like football season and basketball season, and it’s a bit less of a rush during the other sports.

ON THE SAND: Senior Giselle Groe continues her final season of Beach Volleyball at Mater Dei and, having played as varsity athlete since freshman year, hopes to continue to play in college. Though getting into a new sport is not easy, Giselle offers motivation to anyone who is interested in starting beach volleyball. “Honestly, just have fun! Beach volleyball is a great place to make friends and it’s an excuse to always go to the beach,” Groe said. “Don’t be afraid to try new things. You never know what you will be good at.”

Students find ways to personalize uniform, work to express themselves

THE CALM AFTER THE STORM Many students rush to the lunch lines in the hopes to get their lunch first. The rush causes significant chaos and doesn’t give many students a chance to get their lunches. This has also become an unfair advantage for those with further classes who can’t make it to the LeVecke fast enough. Many complain about lines promoting cutting and how frustrating it is to just get lunch. Another complaint stems from not being able to find friends to sit with at lunch now with changing lunch schedules that are forcing friend groups to break. “I prefer having upper lunch because I can converse with more friends since I rarely see them after school,” Calilung said. “Upper lunch is also less crowded and the food line is shorter.”
