![SMILE FOR THE CAMERA: The 1988-89 yearbook shows the first Scarlet Scroll staff with their advisor, Susan Diaz. As a new publication, the newspaper staff had to put extra care into making sure what they were reporting on set a positive precedent for the paper on campus. “The administration at the time was very afraid that the Scroll would immediately turn into a format where students could just take pop shots at [them],” Gene Jimenez, a member of the 1988-89 staff, said. “And when we showed them that we could actually produce [something] as semi-responsible adults, it was a big deal.”](https://thescarletscroll.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/doc00617420211117152104-copy-601x900.jpg)

Starting at age eleven, costumes such as these sold at stores become oversexualized, extremely specific to certain body types, and unsuitable for most teens. ![NEW AND IMPROVED The projected look of the new Performing Arts Center as envisioned by the Performing Arts Department. This new building, which is going to replace the current Little Theatre and Pavillon, is set to engulf a large portion of the Bristol tent area as well. “It's taking up the Bristol Lot, actually,” Melvin said. “[In] the back, […] there will be eight parking spots. And then [there will] be trees, [along with] parking for the band truck and Mater Dei Television. There's gonna be all these other trees that are in this beautiful little atrium area for guests.
