SMILE FOR THE CAMERA: The 1988-89 yearbook shows the first Scarlet Scroll staff with their advisor, Susan Diaz. As a new publication, the newspaper staff had to put extra care into making sure what they were reporting on set a positive precedent for the paper on campus. “The administration at the time was very afraid that the Scroll would immediately turn into a format where students could just take pop shots at [them],” Gene Jimenez, a member of the 1988-89 staff, said. “And when we showed them that we could actually produce [something] as semi-responsible adults, it was a big deal.”

NEW AND IMPROVED The projected look of the new Performing Arts Center as envisioned by the Performing Arts Department. This new building, which is going to replace the current Little Theatre and Pavillon, is set to engulf a large portion of the Bristol tent area as well. “It's taking up the Bristol Lot, actually,” Melvin said. “[In] the back, […] there will be eight parking spots. And then [there will] be trees, [along with] parking for the band truck and Mater Dei Television. There's gonna be all these other trees that are in this beautiful little atrium area for guests. It's a plaza, and then the bookstore is going to be right [next to it] as well.” | Courtesy of Scott Melvin

EYES UP, MASK ON: Students sit at their desks with their masks on and listen to their teacher. During the Hybrid Learning program, students are required to wear masks at all times while on campus, and teachers like Mrs. Kitsinis feel that change the most in their classrooms. “There's a lot of a lot of newness to this year…” Kitsinis said. “I've got to find new ways to get my students involved, engaged, and enjoying it. And I don't know that I have found that yet.” Photo courtesy of Tiffany Le, Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Crown Yearbook.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Sophomore Roecel Sangrador practices playing her ukelele, which she has been working to perfect during quarantine. For students, including Sangador, quarantine has left a plethora of time and many use that time to better their skills in different areas. “I have had a ukulele laying around...I [hadn’t] really had time aside to play it and quarantine gave me the time and chance to.”
