Valerie is a senior and content editor for the Scarlet Scroll. She is also on the lacrosse team, a Head Scarlet Ambassadors, and is in various clubs. In her free time, Valerie enjoys running, hanging out with family and friends, reading, and watching movies. She also loves to travel with her family.

Cruz and Father Steve Sallot, the new President of Mater Dei, prepare the Body and Blood of Christ for the Eucharist. Cruz works closely with Helen Steves who has worked at Mater Dei for 32 years. “And I believe his prayerful, intentional preparation is, to me so inspiring. When you walk into a mass...you go in there and you have [for] example 100 football players, and how he takes the Word of God to relate it to their lives. When you walk into a performing arts group, and he, who is a singer himself, hes got the most beautiful voice,” Steves said, “For him to take the word that is given to us for that day. And to take it to those who have been gifted with a performing art is another thing that I admire…”

TANGLED TEAMWORK: ASB leader and junior Jill Neustadt works with her middle-school students to untangle themselves in the “Human Knot” challenge at the end of the Learning to Lead event on Nov. 11. The station was just one of many in the leadership challenge put towards the end of the day. Groups had to work together at the various stations in order to finish first and win a prize.

Pumpkin Picking: at Tanaka Farms patrons get the ability to venture into the crops of pumpkins and pick out the ones they want, you may have to take the pumpkin straight off of the vine. Wheelbarrows are provided so that you can easily maneuver the event while you pick out your pumpkins.
